Programme overview

UEFA For Players is first and foremost a mobile application designed to expand players’ football and career management knowledge at the touch of a screen. There is a wide range of educational modules on different topics, all based on immersive simulation videos and real-life case studies. The application is highly interactive and gamified, providing the latest information on football career management as well as a weekly news feed with up-to-date content and upcoming events.

The application will be gradually opened to players engaging in UEFA competitions. National associations, leagues, clubs and players’ unions interested in implementing and delivering UEFA For Players at their level can contact UEFA for more information. Dedicated seminars, including face-to-face sessions on specific topics, can also be organised on-demand. Contact the UEFA Academy for more information.

Training module 1

This module provides key information about UEFA and its values, responsibilities and mission.

This module will answer the following questions:

  • How does UEFA support aspiring young players?
  • What competitions does UEFA organise?
  • What are the main ways in which UEFA promotes, protects and develops football in Europe?
  • What does UEFA do to foster inclusion, fight discrimination and increase accessibility?

Anti-Doping

Training module 2

This module contains information on the fight against doping, increasing players’ awareness of this issue and helping to safeguard their health.

This module will answer the following questions:

  • Why does UEFA have an anti-doping programme?
  • What rules and procedures are in place?
  • How is a doping test carried out?
  • What is there to know about therapeutic use exemptions, nutritional supplements and social drugs?
  • What are the consequences of doping?

Training module 3

This module presents information and takeaway messages on integrity to better protect players.

The module will answer the following questions:

  • What is match-fixing and why is it dangerous for football?
  • Who is behind match-fixing?
  • What do you need to do if you are approached to fix a match?
  • What are the risks and consequences if you try to fix a match?
  • What is there to know about betting and insider information?

This module contains key information about the Laws of the Game and the regulations governing UEFA’s main competitions.

This module will answer the following questions:

  • Why is it important to know the Laws of the Game?
  • How can I improve my knowledge of key rules?
  • What is it like being a referee?
  • What can I wear (or not) on the field of play?

Training module 5

This module provides information on preparing for a second career off the pitch and the education programmes that can help in this regard.

This module will help players to answer the following questions:

  • What other jobs would suit my personal profile, skills and abilities?
  • What do I need to do in order to ensure a successful transition?
  • What practical steps can I take in order to prepare for that transition?

This module contains information on communication, the media and social media, including important dos and don’ts and key takeaway messages.

  • Why is it important to be aware of my image?

This module provides information on the importance of properly managing your finances and your financial obligations.

This module will answer the following questions:

  • Why is it important that I take control of my finances and how should I do it?
  • What essential principles of finance do I need to know in order to better manage this part of my career?
  • How can I start budgeting and establish a financial plan?
  • What financial obligations do I have and why is it important that I respect them?

My Social Fair Play

Training module 8

This module contains information on diversity and inclusion and looks at how players can act as agents of change, both on and off the pitch.

This module will answer the following questions:

  • How can I use my position as a footballer to contribute to a better and fairer society?
  • What are the main ways in which I could help to foster diversity and inclusion?
  • What are the main aspects of corporate social responsibility (CSR) that I need to know about?

Resource center

The mobile application also contains a resource center where players can quickly access key information on subjects covered by the training modules (e.g. contact details or documents referred to in those modules).

Webinars

Players are able to attend webinars through the application, allowing them to discuss topical issues with experts and former/current players and have their questions answered.

News feed

The application is updated on a regular basis, with a news feed highlighting new content. Players can sign up to receive notifications so they do not miss anything.
